Duty / Site Managers

Underbelly’s is seeking duty / site managers for various of our festival sites.

Two Duty Managers, working shifts, are responsible for daily operations at our sites, and are answerable to the Production Managers and Operations Manager. They are assisted at all times by a Front-of-House supervisor, a Box Office supervisor, a Bar supervisor and at night, a Security supervisor. They also line manage the team of technicians that operate all shows within the venues; as the immediate line of support for any venue problems, strong technical and theatrical production skills are desirable.

You will need to work all the festival weekends and will get 1 day off per week.

Day to day operations are the immediate responsibility of the Duty Managers, attending to problems as they arise. This includes the maintenance and upkeep of the site, and any applicant should be happy to get their hands dirty as and when issues arise, especially during busier periods of operation. Duties also include maintaining high standards of both employee and public safety, complying with theatre licensing requirements. Proven venue management background is a requirement, with experience of multiple-venue and festival operations a definite advantage.

Good communication and motivational skills are required; operational hours of the festival necessitate that the Site Team work long and unsociable hours, as such the ability to create a positive work atmosphere is essential. Applicants need to be calm under pressure, quick to solve problems, and comfortable with the unexpected.

A current Scottish Personal License is desirable but not required, although strong knowledge of alcohol supply legislation and operations are necessary. You will be responsible for instructing and monitoring security staff and guiding the door policy.

Duty Managers represent Underbelly to our clients both public and performer, and to council and other official inspectors and visitors. They should inspire confidence in those you deal with, be a convincing advocate for our interests and ensure that we deliver on our obligations.

Qualities that would suit the position would be:

  • You’ve got outstanding people management skills, with experience of successfully managing and teams.
  • You’re a skilled and confident communicator (both written and verbal) with strong emotional intelligence
  • You’ve got good time and priority management skills, with experience of working to deadlines
  • You’re a natural problem-solver, with a passion for devising creative solutions
  • You have the excellence reflex: a natural reaction to fix something that isn’t right, or improve something that could be better
  • Hands on approach to problem solving

Applicants must be available from 24th July to 31st August 2017, which represents the technical build process followed by staff training, arrival of performers, the 25-day run and final dismantling.

Rate will vary based on site you are assigned to, experience and whether or not you are a registered self employed or an employee.
