Box Office Staff and Supervisors

You’ll be working as part of our large Box Office team and may be placed at one of our three sites, Cowgate, George Square, or Circus Hub. Previous experience is not essential, but you must be a good communicator, extremely friendly and be able to stay calm in sometimes busy and difficult situations. As the box office system is computerised, you should be able to work a computer without feeling the need to jump out of a window, though detailed computer literacy is not essential. You should be a confident sales person and be happy talking one to one with customers and recommending shows. Cash handling experience would be a bonus. The Box Office is a great place to work - you meet lots of people and offer customers their first view of the venue.

Dates of work: Most jobs will be 30th July to 30th August inclusive, some postions may start/finish earlier.


Pay is minimum wage (£7.50 for 25yrs+, £7.05 per hour for 21 yr - 24 yr olds  and £5.60 per hour for 18 – 20 yr olds) and shifts vary from day to day. You will be expected to be able to work everyday throughout the Fringe, and will be given a minimum of two days off. You will be required to attend 4 hours of orientation and training which is unpaid.
You will get free entrance to all our shows and discounts in our bars.
You will need to be over 18 and find your own accommodation within Edinburgh as we do not provide any staff accommodation.

Box Office Supervisors

We may require some Supervisors to oversee each of our box office counters and answer to the Box Office Managers. You would be responsible for overseeing the counter staff (between 1 - 8 staff depending on venue), their floats and balancing all tills. There is also a lot of liaison with performance companies, you’ll be dealing with all their ticket and offer requests and will be providing them with advice.

Supervisor requirements:

  • You’ll need to have excellent customer service skills and will have to resolve any issues with difficult or unhappy customers.
  • You should also be an excellent sales person and be happy to upsell shows and lead your staff by example. 
  • You’ll need to be able to remain cool in pressured environment and be able to prioritise your own work.
  • Box office or other festival experience is essential.

Most interviews will take place in June.
