Our Technical team are the backbone of venues, setting up and operating all the equipment for our performance spaces, looking after all of our visiting companies, and keeping the place running. Answering to the Duty Manager as well as the Technical Manager and Production Manager, the Crew build the venues, look after the companies and shows for their technical rehearsal as well as their get-ins and outs of the spaces at show time.
To be a part of the team you should have some skills with sound and lighting equipment although you will not necessarily be required to operate every show. Our venues range from the simple to the complex, so a spectrum of skill levels can apply.
The Crew are also responsible for the cleanliness of the performance space and work closely with Front of House in getting audiences in and out and keeping the venues running to time in a busy performance schedule. You will always sit in on the show, whether operating or not, to respond to any technical or audience situation that may develop during the performance. You should be friendly, good with people, be organised and able to communicate confidently, and be a part of the crew that makes the Fringe happen. Part of being a venue tech is also to be part of the get-in and get-out crew in setting up the venues so a great team work ethic is essential.
Dates of work: Most jobs will be 29th July to 29st August inclusive, some postions may start/finish earlier.
You will be expected to be able to work everyday throughout the Fringe, and will be given a minimum of two days off.
You will get free entrance to all our shows and discounts in our bars.
You will need to be over 18 and find your own accommodation within Edinburgh as we do not provide any staff accommodation. We will give advice on where to look, and to help match with other staff who will be looking for accommodation.
You will be required to attend 4 hours of orientation and training which is unpaid.
Underbelly is committed to being a National Living Wage employer, and as such you will be paid at a rate of £7.83 per hour regardless of age. You can expect to work 7-8 hours per day through the run of the Festival, with longer days at the start and end for Technical Rehearsals and the get-in and get-out of the venue. You can expect to be paid £1600-1800 for the duration of the Fringe. This will vary depending on which venue you work in.
