Sound Engineer

We are looking for talented Sound Technicians for our larger spaces at the Edinburgh Fringe. You’ll be working with Stage Managers and Lighting technicians to deliver the technical requirements of our visiting companies. From constructing and fine tuning the PA, maintaining the equipment, and mixing the sound as required for shows, you’ll be managing the technical side of the venues. We use an array of equipment, mainly comprised of D&B rigs with desks such as the Yamaha LS9 and QL1. Previous use of these and QLab are a great advantage.

As part of a large team at the biggest arts festival in the world, you'll be working with a range of world-class companies covering a variety of shows made up of music, comedy, drama, burlesque, and circus acts. The Underbelly crew work hard to create fantastic venues and festival sites in Edinburgh, throughout the UK, and across the world. The Fringe Festival is the centrepiece of our year, and our Technical staff a vital component of it.

Venue shifts split the days in two, keeping working hours to a reasonable length averaging 7-8 hours a day through the run. Your venue pass allows you to see any shows at our other venues through the Fringe, and discount at our bars. Accommodation is not provided as part of the position, however we can advise on where best to look, and also help match up with other technicians working with us to help find places. You should ideally be available for the entirety of August. The rate of pay for this role is variable subject to experience, but a minimum day rate of £70 applies.
